I gotta give big thanks to the FusionBB team on getting this done and out the door. Thanks to Billy, Chris, Lori and Couchtomatoe!

Also a HUGE thanks to our Alpha testers - who do a great job installing, reinstalling and upgrading sites over and over again to help us work out issues and test things out. Also a thanks to everyone who beta tested this release.

This ended up being a mondo release - we probably should have called it 3.0 - but hey, we are still just getting warmed up.

In a recent post I announced the departure of Dave, my former business partner in FusionBB. My first and primary goal was to improve the release schedule process. I am pleased with the steps I was able to take to get version 2.1 finished up and released, and I have a good start on 2.1.1 which I would expect to be able to release in the next month or two with some bug fixes and minor enhancements.

The next point of concern for me, was finding the right people to help me. Coding FusionBB, running the company, managing sales, promoting FusionBB, managing support and fixing everything that Lori breaks is alot of work, particularly since I still must hold down a full time job in addition to FusionBB.

So I formulated a plan to get the right people I needed to help me take FusionBB to the next level. And I am pleased to announce that 2 new pieces of this plan are now in place.

I am proud to introduce my new business partner in FusionBB.... Billy Cooter. Many of you know Billy well, as he is also my business partner in VertexHost.com, my hosting company, and the hosting company that a great deal of FusionBB users use to host their sites. Billy is an amazing business man, and really helped get VertexHost to the next level... the level I could see, but couldn't get to on my own. He's not exactly a programmer, but will assist with the running of the business, and overseeing customer support. He will specialize in promoting FusionBB from a sales and marketing end. I am very pleased to have him on board with us. We've done some talking the last few weeks, and he really has some great ideas for FusionBB. Please join me in welcoming Billy to the FusionBB team!

The next thing I am very pleased to announce... is FusionBB's first official "employee". Many of you know him well already. But Chris Peterson has assisted us by volunteering his efforts here at the FusionBB community forums for quite some time. He has now officially joined the FusionBB team as our Community Support Specialist. He will be assisting with support, running the forums here, helping with installs, upgrades and imports and acting as a liaison between our customers and the rest of the FusionBB team. He has essentially been filling most of this role already, but I'm happy to have him in an official capacity. Please join me in welcoming Chris to the FusionBB team!

The last piece of the puzzle in the restructure of FusionBB, is a coder who can complete the tasks which are above my abilities. I am not ready to introduce anyone officially at this point, but I am talking to coders and should have that final piece in place soon.

FusionBB 2.0 Released

This is our first major update to FusionBB and we've included some dramatic new features, including the Calendar and MyPaymentPal.

We are well aware that the first major upgrade to FusionBB has been a long time coming. Too long for sure - for that we are well aware, and we apologize for the long delay. To Thank You for Your Patience we will be adding 1 year to the expiration date of all licenses purchased prior to today. So if your license expired in August of 2006, you now have to August of 2007. This should give everyone plenty of time on their Member area access to not only get and upgrade to 2.0, but probably 2.1 as well. We plan to set ourselves up to work on a more frequent relesase schedule moving forward.

I want to personally thank Dave, as without his vision FusionBB would be nothing, and Jason, for without him FusionBB would look like crap. I'd also like to thank Lori and Chris for their tireless efforts assisting us. We can't forget about thanking our Alpha and Beta Testers, who have been working with us in the trenches daily, working on this thing and making it as stable as it is.

And of course, most of all, we need to thank our FusionBB license holders. We really really appreciate your faith and support in us! We have tried to do our best for you, and produce the best product possible. And you continue to have our committment in future versions of FusionBB.

OK - this is Version 1.0 Beta 3. This is virtually 1.0 Final. What I'd like to do, is barring anything show stopping bug wise, we'll let this version sit. Meaning some minor bugs might carry to 1.0.1.... this is because sometimes other things can get broken while fixing bugs.... so I'd like this exact version that you test, to go out as 1.0 final monday night. So please make sure it works as well as possible.

Upgrade instructions from 1.0 b2.

- Backup files and database
- Close your forum
- Upload the /install directory from the zip
- Run the /install/upgrade.1.0b2-1.0b3.php in the browser
- Upload the rest of the files. DO NOT DO NOT overwrite/upload the /config directory.
- You may also wish to reupload/replace the /skins directory. We did some reorganization etc.... so this is the best way to determine you've got the latest.
- Resync permissions matrix
- Edit the config file to open forum and update the version number
